Let's GENERICIZE, Baby!

Today was my first day working 9-5 in an office setting (only temporary) and I noticed several generic products around the office that are commonly referred to by their dominant brand names (called "genericizing"). So I thought about them and several others and compiled a list:

1) "Post-It" = Adhesive notes

2) "Band-Aid" = Adhesive bandages

3) "Q-Tip" = Cotton swabs

4) "Kleenex" = Facial tissues

5) "White Out" = Correction fluid

6) "Scotch Tape" = Transparent tape

6) "Duck Tape" = Duct Tape (this one is kind of a stretch)

7) "Windex" = Spray-on glass cleaner

8) "Jell-O" = Flavored gelatin

9) "Rolodex" = Contact organizer

10) "Speedo" = Swim wear (I couldn't find what those tight little swim undies were actually called)

11) "Uggs" = Unisex winter boots (traditionally made of sheep skin)

12) "Zip-Lock Bag" = Zipping sandwich bag

13) "Frisbee" = Flying disc (controversial with Jon Hallquist)

14) "Sharpie" = Fine-tip permanent marker

15) "Jet Ski/ Waverunner" = Personal watercraft

16) "Chap Stick" = Lip balm
