Love Can Touch Us One Time... and then KILL EVERYBODY!

Two nights ago I watched Titanic (I don't need to explain myself!). Something has never really sat right with me during that movie and I finally put my finger on it: Jack and Rose were the reason the Titanic sank!

Sure, it was dark out. Sure, the ship was blasting through the water at full steam. Sure, it had a shorter rudder than it should've had. But where were the watchful eyes of those stationed in the crow's nest gazing? Those eyes were locked down at the deck, where the whimsical couple was announcing to the whole ship "LOOK everyone, we're in love!" Once their public display of affection simmered down and the watchmens' eyes were back on the water - BAM - iceberg dead ahead!

The impact against the iceberg was not a direct hit. Mostly, it was a harsh graze against a sharp protrusion. If Jack and Rose hadn't burst through the door and onto the deck, averting the attention of the staff, the crew would've had ample time to avoid the side-swipe (probably still a close call, though). Those kisses and that dance on the deck caused the deaths of over one thousand people and the desctruction of the, then, largest cruiseliner in the world (and they said God himself couldn't sink that ship!).

So, how were they rewarded? Well, Jack died. Rose lived to be 100-years-old and in the afterlife spends eternity with Jack. Not only that, but they are aboard the very ship they caused the destruction of, with the people they sent to a watery grave! And those people clap and chear for them! The person whom, I think, gets a pretty big afterlife shaft is Rose's late husband. I wonder where he is eternally waiting for her while she frolicks around a ghost ship with the man she only knew for two days.

Rose said she never spoke of Jack to anyone and she changed her name to Rose Dawson when she made port in America. Why would she do this? Damage control. By changing her name she would no longer be registered aboard the ship (faking her death perhaps?) and keeping Jack only in memory alleviates her from connection to him as an accomplice.

Don't get me wrong, this movie really wrenches at the heart strings. But pay attention to the consequences of their actions. The next time you find yourself in love with someone, ask yourself how many people might die because of it.

Why Is it that you believe

Why Is it that you believe that they are the root cause of the titanic sinking?

Isn't that what the first

Isn't that what the first three paragraphs are about?
