After the first day, AW has taken the commanding lead, followed by a 3 way tie for 2nd in the face for the elusive 6-Pack. Today we saw our fair share of blowouts, close games, buzzer beaters, and upsets. Let's take a look at the best in each of those categories.
BEST BLOWOUT!!!
Butler 77, UTEP 59 - This game was suppose to be so much closer and it was in the first half, with UTEP leading by 6 at halftime. But then Butler unleashed a fury of 3-pointers on UTEP and before you even noticed, Bitler had built a 10 point lead and it grew.
BEST CLOSE GAME!!!
Villanova 73, Robert Morris 70 O.T. - This was suppose to be a easy win for 'Nova, but instead the Wildcats saw themselves down 55-47 with 3:00 left. That's when good teams really emurge and Villanova did as they scored 8 straight points to tie it with a 1:20 left and later it went into overtime. Where Villanova played good defense, effective offense and survived a huge scare. Robert Morris deserves a ton of credit as if they had won, they would have been the first 15 seed ti beat a 2 seed since 1991.
BEST BUZZER BEATER!!!
Murray State 66, Vanderbilt 65 - Little known Murray State battled all day with Vanderbilt and then after a late second half surge by Vandy, it seemed to be the end of the road for the Racers of Murray State. Instead a couple of huge missed free throws and Murray State hit a jumper with no time left on the clock to score the big first round upset.
BEST UPSET!!!
Ohio 97, Georgetown 83 - Georgetown was supposed to advance far in this tourney, some had them as a sleeper Final Four team... but Ohio had different plans as they dominated every aspect of this game. The Hoyas were never in striking distance in the second half and the Bobcats of Ohio score the biggest upset so far.
